How do I get started?

To make an appointment, call (718) 204-2430 extension. However, you don't to make an appointment to become a member with us. See our hours of operation.

You can also get your tax returns done for free between December 15 and April 14. Urban Upbound is an official IRS VITA partner. To make an appointment with a tax preparer, please call the number listed above.

What do I need to bring with me?

For free financial counseling: If possible, when meeting a financial counselor for the first time, please bring any of the following, so we can best assist you:

• Paystubs 


• Creditor statements/letters


• If a NYCHA resident, please bring their family composition and rent calculation/lease any recent NYCHA letters


• If you are in housing court or being sued, please bring any court documents or stipulations you have.

For free employment services: If possible, when meeting an career counselor for the first time, please bring any of the following, so we can best assist you:

• Resume (if you have one)

• Most recent Photo ID

For free tax preparation assistance: Please bring the following to your scheduled tax prep appointment:

• Proof of ID: Picture ID for all adults filing a return

• Social Security cards of everyone listed on the tax return

• Birth dates for all persons listed on the tax return

• ALL wage & earning statements (such as W2, W-2G, 1099R) from all employers that may be associated with any income received by you or your household

• If applicable, amounts paid for daycare and the child care provider’s identification number

• If available, a copy of your previous year’s federal and state tax returns

• A voided check or savings deposit slip to have your refund directly deposited into your bank account

• * If filing a joint return, both you and your spouse need to be present to sign the return.
